Paraguayans abroad: Spain accounts for 56% of remittances, much of it going toward homeownership

Paraguayans abroad July 28, 2026

Family remittances into Paraguay totaled close to USD 499 million between January and May 2026, according to data released by the Central Bank of Paraguay. Spain remains by far the top sending market: it accounts for nearly 56% of everything sent by compatriots living outside the country.

A good share of that flow has a specific destination: buying a home in Paraguay, whether to move back, to rent out in the meantime, or as a dollar savings safeguard. It's not a minor phenomenon: several economists already point out that remittances from Paraguayans abroad represent a foreign-currency inflow comparable to what Itaipú generates.

Buying from a distance has its own particulars: choosing a developer with a track record, verifying that the project's title is properly registered, and having someone you trust in Paraguay for the paperwork are key steps. At Asunova we work specifically with that overseas buyer in mind, with clear information and verified projects before they're published.
